My experience using MS word was mainly my first typing experience. I started using MS word in middle school due to the transition to the upcoming age of electronics. From middle school up to my senior year in high school, I used MS word almost every week to do an assignment for my classes. Once I got to FSU, my first year using MS as a freshman was difficult because professors would want our documents to look a certain way. The things I did was new to me because I never knew these things were in MS word. It got easier over time especially after learning how to use it for each class. I prefer MS word but maybe it is because I use it the most and it is easily accessible to me compared to Google docs. I prefer google docs only when a group has to work on the document and other times I would go with MS word.
The standard that is most meaningful to me is 2.5 Designer. This standard is about finding creative ways to make sure each and every one of your students understands the lesson. Not everyone learns the same so finding ways to get people to understand helps everyone out in the long run. This is the most important to me for K-12 educators because we have teachers that teach by the old ways and do not care enough to go the extra mile to get a few students to understand. Finding ways a student can understand something is best for both of y'all especially the student when he/she continues their education.
I slightly agree with the label "digital native" for today's youth. Being a digital native basically means that you are born with technology, technology is not new to you and it's a thing you use 24/7 throughout your life. I have seen the way my teacher uses devices compared to me. While I'm in class my professor still uses a notebook or paper to present or teach a lesson. As a student, I look around and see all my peers on a computer or a laptop writing notes. The impact is not bad due to I still prefer paper and pencil before I use my iPad and apple pencil. I tend to only use my iPad because I fear that everyone looks at me as the outsider with pencil and paper and everyone has electronics to take notes. The difference I anticipate between me and my future students is the use of electronics. I probably want my students to do work on paper instead of on their electronics if I can.
Content I would like to include in my newsletter are updates about class, future assignments, upcoming trips, stuff to do outside of class, school updates, and star students for the week. My target grade level is 1st grade and the subject would be science. My tip would be to design something to get the parent and students to read. Do not put too many words on it that makes a parent uninterested and do not put so little that the parent or student does not see a change every month.

Hi Brianna,
ReplyDeleteUsing Google Docs to collaborate is so much easier than using MS Word. Sometimes logging into your student account is such a hassle ,especially regarding Duo Mobile. I despise Duo Mobile. There are so many shortcuts on Word that make writing papers easier, like using APA or MLA, but sometimes they are hard to find since Word on Macs and Windows are different, and even the version of the App that you have downloaded could also make it difficult to use.
I was also considering using that Standard 2.5. It is so important to make sure that you are adapting to the needs of your students, and that you are making new ways for your students to learn and understand.
Hey! I wrote practically the same thing for mine. I think Google Docs is way easier to do group projects and have everything shared quicker.
